Just

Sumit SethFounder, Naamly 2 min read

Does this sound familiar?

– “I’m JUST saying.”

– “I’m JUST checking in.”

– “I’m JUST asking.”

Translation –

– “I’m SORRY for speaking.”

– “I’m SORRY to bug you.”

– “I’m SORRY I asked.”

We all do it.

We put our hands up in a defensive position, turn our heads to the side to avoid eye contact, and wince slightly as if we’re about to be slapped and say…“I’m just saying.”

Everything we’ve said before and everything we say after is now buried under this vailed apology designed to keep us from being held accountable or rebuked for what comes out of our mouths.

Are people that say “I JUST tell it like it is…” fun to be around? Easy to get along with? Truly confident? (I know you’re thinking of someone right at this moment.? )

Persuasion is rooted in sincere confidence. Confidence inspires belief. Belief opens doors and breaks down walls.

The solution is simple, as all solutions should be.

– Say it.

– Check-in.

– Ask.

The less you say, the more confident you sound.

Try to avoid letting the word “JUST” escape your lips this weekend, and let me know how you did.

Practice your persuasion!
