Case Study: Youth Athletic Training Gym Uses Tracking and Engagement to Improve Retention

Larry Graham started Athletes Performance Enhancement (A.P.E.) to give kids an opportunity to understand who they are, and what their potential can be. He describes his 5,000 sq foot facility in Mesa, Arizona as a “bridge from home to an activity base. This is a place for them to meet themselves.”

Larry’s team makes it possible for kids to learn in a setting where they don’t have to be in “perfection mode,” a common scenario many kids find themselves in with school or club coaches. They can simply work on speed, agility, and boody control in a safe, fun environment.

As he expanded his gym, he found himself with 200-300 kids enrolled in a program at any given time. With that many members, engagement and tracking became the most difficult part of the business.

“What I needed was an engagement tool,” Larry said. “The difference between me being successful and not is what I can show and communicate to parents.”

Parents of Larry’s athletes have goals, dreams, and aspirations for their kids. Larry knows that “if there are no metrics that I can show parents about where the kids started, where they are, and where they’re going, I can lose them. There has to be some way to chart progress and communicate that with the parents.”

Luckily, Larry found Naamly — the customer experience platform for gyms

With this new software, Larry could do all the things he knew he needed to do to retain more clients. Features like business insights, client tracking, smart communication, and more were just the thing his business needed.

“What Naamly does for us is it allows us to track our athletes’ progress, set up programs and standards, and then have documentation,” says Larry. Not only can he retain more clients with this new system, it makes everything easier for him and his staff.

The time savings for him and his staff allow them to deliver better experiences for their athletes, as well as to find more clients. “It frees my time up because it is so well architected,” Larry said.

Now, all the engagement and tracking is in one place — Naamly. Larry says that “as an owner, the dashboard is key for me to be organized and to see everything. I can see exactly where we are with our numbers. We also have quick access to see how each kid was performing today, which allows us to speak to the parent at the next visit. It makes a difference.”

In the end, Larry and his team want to make a difference in the lives of these kids and their families. Naamly allows them to engage in meaningful ways, keep track of everyone’s performance, and communicate clearly with parents.

“I don’t want parents to bring kids here because it’s a trend, I want them to come because we have a product that can get them some results,” Larry says. “I’m thankful to have a product and service like this, because in my business, you don’t get that too often.”

A.P.E. is now poised to reach even more young athletes and make an even bigger difference in the world.
