Designing ways to enhance your customer relationships doesn’t have to be a head scratcher. When you own a business (especially a gym) it’s important to be proactive in the decision making process that comes with building stronger, more consistent customer relationships.
- Do Your Homework
- It’s said that the human brain can only contain three, maybe four things in their conscious mind at any given time. Dealing with multiple members, their specific needs and other relevant information can be daunting. Taking notes is a simple way to jam the information members are giving into your head. Remembering members’ personal information like birthdays and special occasions can go a long way on the road to keeping those members for life.
- When interacting with your customers don’t just figure out what they need you for – understand their interests & concerns. Ask about their family members, significant others; it doesn’t matter. As long as you’re coming at it from a genuine perspective your customers will see that.
- Study Your Notes
- Take the notes on all of your members and compile them into a database containing their phone numbers, emails, caloric intakes, body masses, etc.
- A customer database that holds all contact information alongside more aggregated data on your customers will put you a step ahead of the game. The more details you have on your customer, the better you will be equipped to serve their needs.
- Give Consistent Communication
- Find the sweet spot of communication with your individual members. Know what works for them, be that text, a phone call or a newsletter and conform. Try your best to establish a line of communication with your members as early as possible via email, text message or other means of communication.
- Finding ways to communicate and actively involve your members in the development of your business is a key factor in building a relationship with them that will go the distance.
- Ask For Feedback
- Listening to your customers is key. When running any business, but especially a gym, it provides more value to your members when they feel they are being listened to.
- Inform your customers that open, and honest criticism is welcomed. Be open to their feedback. You never know: they might see a way to improve the business that you would’ve never even thought of.
- Always Follow Through
- Having an honest reputation is something that is invaluable. Especially when running a gym. Always follow through with the promises you’ve made. If you break your promises that only hinders the business and relationships you’re desperately trying to craft.
- Be transparent with your members and the concerns they have. Meaning providing clear and concise answers to the queries presented to you.
In short, building member relationships isn’t as easy as flipping a switch. You have to be active, engaging and approach each member with a clear intention of what it is you need from them and what you can give them in return.
